MR. VANCE'S NEWS TO USE THIS WEEK
SEPTEMBER 3, 2021
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We have completed our first full week of the 2021-2022 school year. All students, preschool through grade eight, have transitioned very well into this new school year. During my visits to the classrooms, I witness children participating in various educational activities, students taking care of each other, and staff encouraging children in their learning. What a great beginning! I am so proud of our students and staff as we begin our 75th year!
On Tuesday, September 7, students in grades 3-8 will have a unique and spiritual opportunity. Fr. Fernandes has scheduled a presentation called Treasures of the Church for the parish and our students. Treasures of the Church is a ministry of evangelization of the Catholic Church, run by Fr. Carlos Martins of the Companions of the Cross. Its purpose is to give people an experience of the living God through an encounter with the relics of His saints in the form of an exposition. Fr. Carlos brings over 100 relics for the faithful to venerate. Our students will hear a presentation from Fr. Carlos and then get a chance to see the many relics he will display, one of them being from the True Cross of Jesus. Students in grades 6-7-8 will visit the relics, two homerooms at a time. Students will need to mask for the 20 minutes in the gym together.
Families are encouraged to attend Fr. Carlos' presentation at 6:30pm in church. After the presentation, families will have the opportunity to move to the gym to examine and venerate these relics. For further information, please go to

I would like to share how contact tracing has occurred this week in the middle school. A middle school child tested positive for Covid 19, and we were able to quickly contact trace students who could have been exposed. Thanks to the majority of students wearing a mask or being vaccinated, only 3 out of 17 close contacts had to quarantine. Students wearing a mask get to stay in the classroom unless they begin to exhibit symptoms. We are being notified every day of more students masking at all grade levels, which will lead to more days in school.
Just a gentle reminder there is no school on Monday, September 6 for Labor Day. We look forward to greeting your children on Tuesday, September 7!
In Christ's Peace,
Kevin Vance
Principal

Please keep all animals in your car during dismissal times. We do not want an accident to happen because a child came too close to your pet. Thank You!
RENAISSANCE TESTING
St. Ignatius uses a program called
Renaissance for a variety of activities, including benchmark assessments and progress monitoring. Benchmark assessments are taken 3 times per year in both reading and math. Students in grades 2-8 take the
Star Reader and
Star Math tests. Students in kindergarten take the
Star Early Literacy test, which measures foundational skills in reading and math. The
Star Early Literacy test is also used at the beginning of first grade. Later in the year most first graders transition to the
Star Reading test.
In past years, we have emailed or printed test results to parents. This year, we are asking parents to sign in to the
Renaissance Home Connect portal where you can see your child's scores and sign up for email notifications to receive scores when your child takes a test.
Home Connect also lets you see your child's Accelerated Reader library and quiz scores. Watch for a letter from your child's teachers for login information. The username and password is the same as what your child uses for the Star test or AR at school; so you can also check their password keeper.
Parents who already access Home Connect do not need to sign up again, but it is suggested that you check that your account has an email listed to allow score notifications to be sent to you.
