HEISEL'S HEADLINES FOR THE WEEK

NOVEMBER 4, 2021

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Fall temperatures have arrived, the leaves are changing, and we have entered the second quarter of school! First quarter report cards were sent home earlier this week. If you did not receive your child’s, please contact the main office and we will resend it to you.

Please look at the information attached to this Wire concerning VIRTUAL Parent Teacher conferences, which will be held on the evenings of Thursday, November 18 and Monday, November 22. We will be using Sign-up Genius again this year to schedule appointments. Our hope is that this will allow parents (especially those with more than one child at school) to better control their schedule. To allow time for as many parents as possible, parents may schedule one appointment for students in grades K-3, and two appointments (different teachers) for students in grades 4-8. Conferences will be on Zoom this year. Your teacher will send a link before conferences. Of course, additional virtual times are available outside of conference days and can be made by directly contacting the teacher. Sign-up Genius will open at 9:00am on Friday, November 5, and run through 9:00am on Thursday, November 11. Slots will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. You will be receiving a separate email this evening containing the Sign-Up Genius link for your child’s grade level. For more information, please see the letter attached to this Wire.

Next week is Vocations Awareness Week. We will have religious speakers, special morning announcements, and signs/posters throughout the building. We are asking our families to pray for vocations, as well as talk about them at home with your children. Our Archdiocesan Prayer for Vocations can be found here: VocationPrayer.docx

As we enter this month of gratitude, please know that we are so thankful for our students and St. Ignatius families. We continue to lift you, our families, up in prayer every day. Please continue to pray for the staff, students, and benefactors of this school. It is a source of strength and support.

October's TruPartner of the Month goes to Emmett D., who is a 5th grader in Mrs. Oliverio's homeroom. He was nominated for his kindness in helping out a classmate who was really feeling down. That small gesture really brightened that student's day! Congratulations Emmett and thank you for being so kind and compassionate! Emmett will receive a $100 tuition credit and gift from TruPartner Credit Union.

UPCOMING SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES!

As the holidays draw near, we have some opportunities coming up that allow us to serve others.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 10, FEAST DAY OF ST. LEO THE GREAT

St. Leo, Fairmount

Our school will be collecting gently used toys (cleaned and in good condition) for their annual toy and clothing sale in December. St. Leo's parishioners are able to select toys and clothing for their children. They will not be charged, but they can make a donation. Toys will be delivered to St. Leo's on November 10.
To help with packing, sorting, or delivery, please call Geri Tengler at 741-4758.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 17

McCreary County, Kentucky

Families are invited to bring a NEW toy for those less fortunate. NEW toys will be sent to families in McCreary County, Kentucky. We are asking for one toy (possibly $20 or less) from families.

NOVEMBER 19

Spirit Day Outreach/ McCreary County

Our next Spirit Day Outreach (prayers and dollar donation) will also go to the people of McCreary County. Our dollar donations will be used to buy Kroger gift cards, which, along with the NEW toys, will be taken to them. This county is located in southern Kentucky near the Tennessee border, and is the poorest county not only in Kentucky, but the whole United States. Volunteers from our parish travel almost 200 miles, which takes about three hours, to deliver donated items. Thank you for your generosity for this outreach!

AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT (ASE)

REGISTRATION OPEN THROUGH

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 23

ASE is back! Please look at the ASE Class Offering Booklet attached to this Wire for more information. The courses outlined are open to all students in grades 1-8 currently enrolled at St. I's. The focus of the program is to provide exciting educational opportunities while expanding the students' knowledge of the world around them. Classes will be held on three consecutive Tuesdays: January 11, 18, and 25.

The cost is $30 per child.

LOST AND FOUND

The Lost and Found in the cafeteria is growing with lunchboxes, spiritwear, uniform items and more! Please have your child check for missing items. Parents are also welcome to call the school office at 389-3242 if you know of something in particular that is lost. We are happy to check for you!

Items left will be donated to local agencies on November 12.

TOO MUCH LEFTOVER HALLOWEEN CANDY?

The cafeteria will once again be collecting leftover Halloween candy and will be sending it to troops keeping us safe. You can bring your candy to the cafeteria until Friday, November 19.

SNACK CART IN THE CAFETERIA

The snack cart is back this year by popular demand for grades 4-8. All snacks are peanut free and individually wrapped and are a great supplement for buyers, packers, and those who want to buy a snack at lunch for second recess. All snacks are 50 cents with a limit of 2 snacks per person. For more information or any questions, please contact cafeteria manager, Mrs. Beth Reynolds.

VOCATIONS POTLUCK DINNER EVENT

Please join us Wednesday November 10 from 6:00-9pm for a potluck style taco bar dinner and a bonfire with the religious sisters of the Children of Mary! This event is open to all 6th through 12th graders from any school or parish.

If your 6-12 year old children are struggling to pray and follow along during Sunday Mass, Magnifikid magazines may be able to help! You will be contacted about the payment once all reservations are made, and the bulk rate is determined.

(St. Ignatius Parish is offering a bulk ordering rate, so the price is dependent upon the number of subscriptions received by December 5.)

Every week, Magnifikids offers:

**All the readings and the prayers of the Sunday Mass with explanations of the difficult words and the meaning of the rituals;

**A suggested prayer for morning and evening;

**Many suggestions on how to live the entire week with the Lord;

**Various games, a comic, and activities to help children learn about Christian life and culture;

**A page intended for the parents with suggestions for family prayers.

For $14-$19 per year, each subscriber will receive a monthly package that contains a booklet of 16 color pages for each Sunday, as well as special issues for major feast days. These monthly packages will be reserved for your family in the parish office lobby so that you can pick them up on your way in to Mass.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SURVEY RESULTS

Five Week Video Series

The community engagement survey was taken to allow you to express how we can improve upon various aspects of our community. The five highly mentioned aspects that came out of the survey were: time, personal reasons, how the AOC handled Fr. Drew's situation, balancing volunteering at the school and church, and the need people have to feel welcomed and invited. Each week a new video will be released discussing one of the five aspects mentioned above.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JESUS 2021

St. Ignatius Parish invites families with young children, ages 10 and under, to celebrate Advent together at our Happy Birthday, Jesus Event on Sunday, December 12 in the Ignatius Center.

Families will choose staggered start times to help prevent overcrowding and allow time to clean between groups. Masks are strongly recommended for this event!

Our theme is "Christmas Around the World". Each family will begin in the St. John Paul II Living Room (Ignatius Center top floor) to watch a short video of The Night of Las Posadas by Tomie dePaola. Las Posadas is a Mexican tradition in which children dress up as Mary and Joseph and imitate their travels from inn to inn in search of a place to stay in Bethlehem. Unfortunately, just as Mary and Joseph were, they are turned away from all the inns and must find shelter in a stable where Christ comes into the world in the most humble of ways. In the story by Mr. dePaola, a special miracle occurs while a family is participating in this tradition.

Your family will then reenact this tradition as you travel from room to room through Ignatius Center learning about different Christmas traditions and (since this year’s date falls on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe) Marian apparitions, and all along the way collecting crafts for your children to do at home during Advent as they prepare for Christmas. Each family will end their journey downstairs where they can visit with Santa and celebrate the Holy Family finally arriving at the location in which Christ is born!
