MR. VANCE'S NEWS FOR THE WEEK
MARCH 11, 2022
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Yesterday, a team of school administrators from Cincinnati and one from Toledo area took time to assist us in completing our State of Ohio Accreditation. This team spent many hours reviewing three years of a self-study completed by St. Ignatius, and confirmed that we are in compliance with all state standards. In addition, they reviewed two goals that will guide us for the next 5 years. One of the goals is an academic goal and the other a Catholic Identity goal. The team interviewed many of the teachers in order to best understand the two goals, and then helped with suggestions on how we can implement them. The final stage of this process happens in Columbus as they will review and affirm all the work that has been completed. This process is necessary for us to continue to receive state funding for the school. I am so proud of our staff for their hard work and commitment to this process.
This weekend, our 7th grade students will participate in their Confirmation Retreat. I ask that you take a minute and remember this group of children as they prepare to be fully initiated into the Church. The Confirmation ceremony will take place at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter in Chains on Wednesday, March 30.
Thank you to everyone who made a donation to our spirit day collection. It was great to see all the blue and gold in the building! $4,500 will be sent to the Catholic Ukrainian Epachy of St. Josaphat in Parma. Bishop Bohdan Danylo is a friend of Fr. Fernandes and he will make sure the money gets to the needy in this war-torn area. Thank you for your generosity, and please pray for peace.
Our mental health staff have created a resource if your child is having difficulty with processing the war in Ukraine. Please check the flyer attached to this Wire for more information.
Today our students and staff celebrated the life of Saint Ignatius. 400 years ago, March 12, 1622, Ignatius of Loyola was canonized a Saint. Students went on a scavenger hunt throughout the building learning facts about St. Ignatius, enjoyed a special treat at lunch, and received a blessed prayer card about him.
I continue to lift you and all St. Ignatius families in prayer every day. Please continue to pray for the staff, students, and benefactors of this school. Continue to offer a special prayer for those students preparing for First communion and Confirmation. It is a source of strength and support. May you and your family feel Jesus’ presence every day.
In Christ’s Peace,
Mr. Kevin Vance
Principal
