MR. VANCE'S NEWS FOR THE WEEK
APRIL 8, 2022
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week started on Saturday with the announcement that Fr. Fernandes is now Bishop-elect Fernandes for the Diocese of Columbus. While we are sad that he will be leaving, we are extremely happy for him! He will be a remarkable compassionate leader and Bishop.
Congratulations to our 6th and 7th graders on the Bible Bowl team! This past week, they competed against six other schools, and after some very intense questioning and answering in the quick fire round, St. Ignatius won first place by 10 points! Congratulations to our team that included Sam B., Dominic B., Serena E., John K., Caillie E., and Ellie W.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the 6th grade went to Camp Joy. During their time at camp they participated in group team building activities, a ropes course challenge, pioneering skills, and a survival skills activity. Even though it was wet and cold on Wednesday, our students did an amazing job completing all the activities and events of the day with enthusiasm and a smile! While the students thought they were only climbing a ropes course, they were also learning and practicing other life skills. Each child had to set a goal for him/herself on the course, figure out how to attain that goal, and cheer/support each other as they worked towards that end. During the other sessions, they had to problem solve different scenarios, work effectively in small groups to attain a goal, and learn how to set the table for dinner. These experiential activities lead to profound learning about oneself and how to persevere in new situations. I am very proud of our students, and I love witnessing them in these situations. Also, a big thanks to the staff who served as chaperones for the two days including Mrs. Burgan, Ms. Koch, Mr. and Mrs. Meyer, Mrs. Conneighton, Mrs. Reder, Ms. Pacitti, Mrs. Youngquist, Mr. Edge, Ms. Bojarski, and Mrs. Bender.
I continue to lift you and all St. Ignatius families in prayer every day. Please continue to pray for the staff, students, and benefactors of this school, and a special prayer for those students preparing for First Communion. It is a source of strength and support. May you and your family feel Jesus’ presence every day.
In Christ’s Peace,
Mr. Kevin Vance
Principal
