Dear Parents and Guardians,

I always feel like the Carnival is the official start to “the end of the school year”! What a beautiful day we had and the 8th graders worked so hard to make it a fun day for all! A HUGE THANK YOU to Jodi Czanik, Kathleen Bunker, and their band of volunteers who worked tirelessly for months in planning and putting it all together. The face painting booth and balloon animals were a big hit once again!

All students in grades 5-8 had the opportunity to hear Mr. Stephen Smith speak on Wednesday about “Teens, Tweens & Social Media.” Mr. Smith is a former high school coach and teacher with over 40 years of experience in the world of interactive media development and IT Consulting. He spoke about how and why apps are addictive, the consequences of the misuse of technology, and the impact on privacy, mental health, and more. We have had him speak several times here at St. Ignatius and each time we learn something new!

Just a friendly reminder that all fees (cafeteria, before and after care, field trips, retreats, etc..) and tuition balances need to be paid in full prior to the last day of school in order for report cards to be distributed on the last day. Any fees/tuition paid after dismissal on the last day may have up to a two-business day wait before report cards are emailed.

Our 8th graders have a very busy week next week, while the rest of us are finishing up some very important academics to round out the year.

iWALK AND OLYMPIC DAY DRESS CODE

Students will wear their brand new 2024 iWalk shirts which students will receive soon! On iWalk day, students should also wear appropriate shorts and may wear hats to protect against the sun. We ask that iWalk dress be similar to a Spirit Day, as students will be in class for the majority of the day.

For Olympic Day, students can be more creative, but we ask that students not wear or bring any face or hair paint/coloring.

You should have received an email yesterday with a google consent form. If not, here is the link to the form.

This form MUST be completed by May 22 if you want your child to receive sunscreen on these days. He or she will receive a silicone wristband on the morning of iWalk which will be reused again on Olympic day.
Important: The sunscreen volunteers will arrive around 10:00am so you should apply sunscreen to your child before school and they will reapply it to your child with a consent. A hat or visor is also recommended, and remember to send your child with a water bottle please!

Also, make sure the name is on the water bottle.

ATTENTION 5th, 6th, AND 7th GRADE PARENTS!

We are looking for host families for this fall's French exchange program, and almost half of our host spots filled! Tentative dates are October 8-17, but they are subject to change. Students who host a French student will have priority when we select students to go to France in the spring. Please see the attached flyer for more information, and if you are interested or you have questions, reach out to Mrs. Krystine Auletto at kauletto@saintignatius.org.

TUITION REFUND UPDATE

If you overpaid for 2023-2024 tuition, please reach out to Barb Campbell in the parish office at 513-661-6565 X2705. We need to know if we should issue a refund check, or if we should apply this to next year's tuition.

THIRD AND FOURTH QUARTER ART SHOW

Please join us for the third and fourth quarter Art Show on Sunday, May 19 from 12:45-2:45pm. All students in grades 1-3 and 4th-8th graders in rooms 301, 302, 305, 306, 313, 314, 318, 311, 216, and 217 will have an artwork on display in the show. 650 masterpieces! There will also be an art scavenger hunt!

iWALK IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!

FRIDAY, MAY 31

iWalk 2024 is Friday, May 31! This is both a fundraiser and a celebration of our school. Help raise donations toward important needs such as tuition assistance, classroom furniture, school programs, etc. The three turn in days are May 22, 29, and 31, or donations can be made online at https://www.wesharegiving.org/App/Form/8bee8281-7960-46b5-909a-13b67e71ce18

On May 31, students will enjoy a one-mile walking loop on parish grounds, with fun-filled stations and activities which are run by seventh grade students. Prior to this day, your child will be given a brand new spirit shirt that has the 2024-2025 theme, “Be His Disciple”. Students will wear this shirt, appropriate athletic shorts, and gym shoes for iWalk. We ask that iWalk dress be similar to a Spirit Day, as students will be in class for the majority of the day. Bringing a water bottle and wearing sunscreen are encouraged.

Help us exceed our goal of $20,000! If we do, students may be out of uniform for the rest of the school year!

COIN WAR

Check under couch cushions, in coat pockets, and empty your piggy bank . . . the Coin War will be in the cafeteria from May 20-30! All change will go toward helping the school exceed our iWalk goal of $20,000!

Grade levels will compete during this War. Whichever grade level wins will earn a Popsicle Party! Then, one student from that winning grade level will also win a gift card toward a NEW pair of shoes!

CALLING ALL LIBRARY BOOKS!

All library books need to be returned to school next week, so be sure to look around at home, in backpacks, school desks and lockers for books. Overdue and lost book notices will be sent home the week of May 27.

OLYMPIC DAY 2024
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 5
St. Ignatius Olympic Day is back, and we are excited to have over 90 volunteer spots for parents to join in this fun day! Please review important information below.

2. Please park in the parking lot in FRONT of church.
3. Opening ceremonies begin at 9:00am in the courtyard. Closing ceremonies are at 2:30pm on the hill near the concession stand.
4. Dress code: Students should wear I-walk shirt. Shorts should be appropriate in length and fit.
5. Put sunscreen on your child’s faces, necks, and arms. They will be outside all day!

6. Please make sure names are on all water bottles.
7. Dismissal: If a student will be leaving with a parent prior to normal 3:30pm dismissal, a note must be sent to the homeroom teacher on the DAY BEFORE Olympic Day.
8. All students MUST have a bag lunch! DRINKS WILL BE PROVIDED!
9. The concession stand will serve as the Olympic Day headquarters.
10. Pray for sunshine! Come out and help cheer for the kids!

ENRICHMENT NEWS

SCOUTS BSA NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER INITIATIVE

Four 8th grade boys, Evan C., Vincent K., Kaleb M., and Jacob M. participated in the Scouts BSA National Day of Prayer initiative for the National Day of Prayer on May 2. Scouts across the world are participating by reading the entire sacred text of their Faith.

TRACK AND FIELD!

Congratulations to the 7/8th Grade Track and Field Team for a great season! The boys’ team finished in fourth place in the City Championship but had amazing victories and PR’s in their individual races with Duke C. breaking the school record for the 1600m run with a time of 5:02.22. There was also a thrilling victory in the 1600m relay to close out the meet. That team consisted of Jacob M., Jacob M., Emmet E., and Duke C.

The girls’ team won a hard-fought battle to bring home the City Championship! There were some amazing individual performances and PR’s by all. Most notably Jayda S. breaking the school record in the 800m run with a time of 2:33.06. A school record set by the 400m relay team consisting of Emily T., Jayda S., Lauren W., and Audry G. with a time of 55.42. Finally, a school record as well as a CYO Championship meet record set by the 1600m relay team consisting of Evelyn S., Caroline J., Jayda S., and Lauren W. with a time of 4:20.83. That record was previously set in 2008 and was beaten by 6 seconds.

A special shout out to the 6th graders who moved up to a higher level of competition to be a part of the team and help bring home the victories.

Good luck to all the 8th graders moving on to compete in high school and thank you for your hard work and dedication this season!

ATTENTION COACHES OR THOSE INTERESTED IN COACHING!

CPR TRAINING

ALL coaches are required to either be CPR certified (through an employer, for example) or take one of our free CPR/Health classes. The class teaches CPR, use of AED's, what to do if someone is choking, and more. There will be one class per month between now and the start of the fall sports season, and class size is limited. Coordinators are still in the planning stages for fall sports and have not yet determined the number of teams or exact coaching assignments. However, we highly encourage anyone considering coaching to sign up for a class today. For those who are already certified, please complete the "Certification Confirmation" registration found on the Athletic Association website. The class does not need to be repeated if you already took a previous class.

PARISH COUNCIL ELECTION THIS WEEKEND!

CAN YOU HELP SUPPORT THE JEFFREY G. HOEH MEMORIAL GOLF OUTING?

On July 6, my family (Julie Caddell) will host the 35th annual Jeffrey G. Hoeh Memorial Golf Outing. Jeff, my brother, was a very special person who touched many lives during his 27 years. Now, in his memory, our goal is to reach out to others suffering from cancer or other catastrophic illnesses. In 34 years, we have helped over 212 individuals or families (several from this parish) and raised over $2 million dollars. All monies go directly to our recipients. This year, 17-year-old Anna Korte from our parish is one of the four recipients. We could not do this without a lot of support! We need donations of any kind to be used as raffle prizes or for our silent auction. Hole/Cart & Pin Flag sponsorships are also available. Promotional type items (300) are needed for the golfer goodie bags. We are a non-profit organization and do have our 501c3. Desserts are needed and can be dropped off at my home on Friday July 5th.
