MR. VANCE'S NEWS TO USE THIS WEEK
OCTOBER 23, 2020
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I pray this finds you and your family healthy during this fall season! The School Leadership Team recently discussing our operating plan in light of the Governor's announcement. It was announced that Hamilton County is now in the "Alert" stage due to the spread of Covid 19. After careful consideration, we have decided to remain open for the immediate future.
I want to share our reasoning so that you can understand why we feel this is the best option at this time. First, there have been no positive cases of students or staff since the beginning of school. Secondly, students who have been quarantined were exposed by another family member and not another student or staff member at St. Ignatius. There is no person to person spread in the building at this time. Finally, we feel that face to face instruction is the best for our students and staff. The quality of instruction is better, student performance and achievement is higher, and we can honor our mission of educating the whole child. Our health protocols are working to keep children safely in the building at this time, and most importantly, the staff and students want to be in school.
I share this with you so you can see how we are currently thinking. I do caution all of us to recall the spring when we were given a few hours of notice that a school closure was imminent. Please continue to secure childcare options should we have to close by order of the health department or for an outbreak in our school. The School Leadership Team will continue to to review the numbers, meet with medical and health professionals, and track the number of cases in the building to determine how safe it is for face to face instruction. After speaking with many of the staff and groups of students, they overwhelmingly want to stay in school. I agree. As long as we can stay healthy, we will remain in face to face instruction.
Please continue to practice the health procedures outlined in the Covid 19 Addendum attached to this Wire and also found in the family handbook. These include practicing social distance, frequent handwashing, and wearing a mask. I am confident we can do this! Thank you for your support of our remarkable students and staff!
Great news about our preschool! The State of Ohio Department of Education came for an unannounced inspection of the preschool yesterday (this is how it is supposed to happen). The program, curriculum, building, and administration were reviewed and evaluated. Due to the exceptional staff and program we have created, we are in full compliance with all rules and standards set by ODE. Congratulations to Mrs. Schnur and her staff!
Please keep our 8th graders in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
In Christ's Peace,
Kevin Vance
Principal
ANNOUNCEMENTS AND GENTLE REMINDERS
THE LAST SHALL BE FIRST (CAR RIDERS, THAT IS!)
Beginning on Monday, October 26 through the whole second quarter, please be aware that we will be changing the order of car rider dismissal. The last shall be first! We will announce Group 4 (last names S-Z) first at the end of the day and work our way through the alphabet in reverse order. We're trying to be sensitive to the long wait in the car rider line at the end of the day.
PJ AND DONUT PARTY
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 27
All families who have sold 10 or more raffle tickets are welcome to wear comfy pajamas to school on Tuesday, October 27. These same students will be invited to come to the cafeteria in small groups sometime during the morning to have their donut treat while staying socially distant. Teachers will be provided with a list of names of eligible students on Monday.
HALLOWEEN IN TIMES OF COVID 19
Halloween will be celebrated on Friday, October 30. While things will look different this year, we are confident that we can hold classroom parties and a modified parade for students only. We ask that students arrive to school with their costume on and if they plan on changing out of their costume, they can wear spirit wear. We encourage creative costumes that promote healthy imagination and fun. Costumes should not be bloody or gory. No weapons, lookalikes, or anything that could be used like a weapon. No masks since students will need to be able to see while attending school. Students should also wear safe and secure shoes. Due to the heightened emotions around the election this year, we ask that no political figures or mottos be used as a costume or any part of a costume.
Room parents will be coordinating a collection of items for the classroom parties and creating some games that can be conducted in the classroom. Since we are currently not involving volunteers in the building, there will be no visitors during the day. Thank you for your continued support of our efforts in providing a healthy school environment.
COVID 19 CASES IN YOUR FAMILY?
If Covid 19 affects your family, we ask that you contact our school nurse, Mrs. Kathy Reder. Please let her know if someone in your family has tested positive or that they have been quarantined due to an exposure to the virus. This information will help us track how prevalent it is in our community and plan for the future of your child's education. You can contact her by email at
